PLP disputes OBA claim of ‘canvassing clash’

Sheila Gomez

Tempers are alleged to have flared between One Bermuda Alliance candidate Sheila Gomez and a member of the Progressive Labour Party during canvassing in Warwick North Central.

However, the Opposition struck back at a claim by Lynne Woolridge, the chairman of the OBA, who described the incident as “bullying and intimidation”.

The encounter, which occurred on Thursday, took place on private property after “repeated requests were made to Mrs Gomez to leave”, a PLP statement read.

Ms Woolridge said a complaint had been made to the Bermuda Police Service after campaign material was taken from Ms Gomez’s hands, with the candidate “verbally threatened” not to come back.

However, the PLP response called the complaint a diversion tactic, adding: “No assault took place, no threats were made and Mrs Gomez was handed back her campaign flyers. Several adult witnesses present can attest to this.”
