On Friday, 27 September, the Information Commissioner’s Office will release its video for Right to Know Week 2019 - Public Access to Information: A Conversation with former Premier Alex Scott. Information Commissioner Gitanjali Gutierrez sat down with former Premier Alex Scott to talk about his early vision for the Public Access to Information (PATI) Act. Former Premier Scott highlights the importance of the rights under the PATI Act for the empowerment of people in Bermuda, and his hopes for the law’s future.

“Former Premier Scott issued the Green Paper that began the process of transforming the idea of public access to information into the enforceable right to know for the public,” stated Information Commissioner Gutierrez. “Right to Know Week was an opportune time to talk with him about his vision of the power of the PATI Act. I also share his view that the Act will be strengthened through its regular use by Bermudians and residents”.

During the twelve-minute video, former Premier Scott and Information Commissioner Gutierrez discuss his vision for the PATI Act, the importance of public engagement, the rights under the PATI Act, good governance, and the role of the public in strengthening the PATI Act.

The video, Public Access to Information – A Conversation with former Premier Alex Scott, is available at www.ico.bm.
