By-election called for Pembroke Central

A by-election for the seat held by the late Progressive Labour Party MP Walton Brown will be held on November 21.The Parliamentary Registrar confirmed that John Rankin, the Governor, had issued a writ for a by-election.Mr Brown, the MP for Pembroke Central since 2012, died suddenly on October 8.Mr Brown defeated Andrew Simons of the One Bermuda Alliance in Pembroke Central in July 2017 by 540 votes to 283 as the PLP stormed to a landslide victory at the General Election.Mr Brown edged out Mr Simons by 353 votes to 347 when the OBA won power at the 2012 General Election.Nomination day will be on November 7 from 11am to 1pm.The polling station will be the St Paul AME Church Hall in Hamilton. Registration for voters in the constituency will close on October 28 at 5pm.Voters can register online at elections.gov.bm or at the Parliamentary Registry Office on the third floor of Craig Appin House, Wesley Street, Hamilton.
