The Premier will reveal pledges to be added to the Government’s agenda today in the House of Assembly.David Burt told the Progressive Labour Party’s delegates conference last month that he would highlight promises fulfilled from last year’s Throne Speech and list new priorities.Mr Burt said that, of 52 commitments made last year, “19 have been completed and 33 are in progress”.The statement on “charting a path for the future while challenging the status quo” is the only ministerial statement scheduled.Curtis Dickinson, the Minister of Finance, is to table a Bill for a temporary pensions scheme amendment, as well as the Internal Audit Amendment Act 2019.Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, will table the Children (No 2) Amendment Act 2019.MPs will also discuss the National Pension Scheme (Occupational Pensions) Amendment Act 2019.The legislation was designed to allow employees to take out a quarter of their private pensions as a lump sum on retirement.It will also require non-Bermudian workers to pay into their occupational pensions, along with self-employed workers.Legislators are to debate the Future State Report tabled in August by the advisory group BermudaFirst.The think-tank’s document includes proposals for changes to healthcare and education, as well as a faster and clearer immigration policy for bringing skilled workers to the island.
