Qatar Re strengthens Bermuda team

Qatar Re: announced three senior appointments for its Bermuda team

Qatar Re has made three senior appointments to strengthen its team in Bermuda.

Andrew Smith is the new chief risk officer, Adam Young has been made head of compliance and Steve Tidd has become chief operating officer. All three will be based in Bermuda.

Gunther Saacke, chief executive officer of the Bermudian-based reinsurer, said: “These most recent senior appointments again demonstrate our ability to attract top-calibre professionals to join us on our path of rapid development.

“Having worked closely with Andrew as a senior consultant before, we are delighted to have him on board as a member of our senior management team.

“His in depth expertise will be instrumental in securing the quality of our future growth.

“Similarly, in his previous function as head of group compliance our parent company QIC, Adam has been working with Qatar Re for the past few years. His experience with differing regulatory environments and his knowledge of the wider QIC Group will prove invaluable as we continue to pursue our strategic objectives.

“Finally, Steve’s promotion reflects the success in his previous assignment as our head of operations. Within a very short period of time, he has already seen through some important enhancements of our processes and systems.”

Mr Smith joined Qatar Re from professional services firm EY in Bermuda, where he worked with Qatar Re on its move to the island.

Mr Young comes to Bermuda from the QIC office in Doha and previously worked in compliance at Lloyd’s of London and the London insurance market.

Mr Tidd moved to his new role from the post of head of operations, a job he had held since 2015.

He previously worked Service Underwriting Agency as managing director.

Qatar Re is a global reinsurer writing all major property and casualty and specialty lines of business, with officers in Zurich, Switzerland and the Dubai International Finance Centre, as well as representative offices in London and Singapore.
