Emerging and non-traditional risk is the theme of the 2016 Alarys Congress in Bermuda.

The conference takes place next month at the Hamilton Princess, and it is expected to attract more than 100 delegates.

The biennial three-day conference is geared to risk-management professionals across Central and South America.

Experts on hot topics affecting Latin America’s risk-management industry are slated to speak at the Fundación Latinoamericana de Administradores de Riesgos y Seguros ALARYS event, which takes place from September 25 — 27.

Key sessions will highlight insurance-linked securities and other alternative risk-transfer products, as well as strategies for mitigating cyber, political, terrorism, kidnap and catastrophe risk.

“Bermuda’s market expertise and innovation in new product lines helps address many risk managers’ needs,” said Bradley Kading, executive director of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and reinsurers.

“To be relevant to our customers, we have to be creative and focused on emerging risks and increasing insurance penetration — we’ve got the capital to take on that risk.”

Mr Kading will feature in a session on risk management trends, alongside Jorge Luzzi, Fundalarys president, Carlos Sabaiani, director of the Argentina Risk Management Association, Cristiane Franca Alves, director of the Brazilian Risk Management Association, and Javier Mirabel, executive director of Fundalarys.

There will be a global regulatory update and a session on the use of captives for LatAm companies.

Former US Air Force special agent Elman Myers will be involved in a session on strategies for non-traditional risks such as cyberbreaches, kidnapping and terrorism. Mr Myers is now managing director of Hiscox special risks.

Roundtable discussions and networking breaks will be interspersed between the agenda’s moderated panel sessions. Outside of conference business, activities such as a sunset cruise and other leisure downtime is being organised to showcase Bermuda and entertain delegates.

This will be the third time Fundalarys has chosen Bermuda to host the conference. The island is the only non-Latin venue chosen in the event’s 20 year history, and previously hosted the Alarys congress in 2004 and 2010.

Early-bird rates for hotel accommodation and event registration are being offered through August 31 via http://alarys.bm
