Biltir leaders meet with Simmons

Job creation focus: Jamahl Simmons, Minister of Economic Development

Leaders of the body that represents Bermuda’s international life insurance industry today met with Jamahl Simmons, the Minister of Economic Development.

Board members of the Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers April Galda, Chip Gillis, Pat Kelleher and Sylvia Oliveira gave an overview of the association, its contribution to the Bermuda economy, and the growth prospects and opportunities available to Bermudians in the life sector.

Wenda Roberts, Biltir corporate secretary, invited Mr Simmons to Biltir’s upcoming September 19 conference.

In a statement, Biltir said: “The priorities of the new government are to focus on public education and job creation — both areas in which we believe Biltir can collaborate.

“We look forward to working with the Minister and the Bermuda Government to further this agenda.”

Mr Simmons said: “The government is committed to being open, accessible and inclusive in our approach as we seek to grow our economy and opportunities for Bermudians.

“Greater government responsiveness, collaboration and efficiency are our approach to stakeholders as we understand that this is the best way to ensure the success of our island. We appreciate our relationship with Biltir and look forward to working with them in protecting and growing our economy.”

Biltir members manage more than $196 billion in assets and insure a wide range of risk types across a broad geographic range.
