Creating a sound to be heard in Heaven

Haven’t made time to worship God lately? Lorna Hayward and Carl Seale are inviting you to make tonight the night.

They are the hosts of The Sound, a concert that starts at 7pm at First Church of God on North Shore Road.

“We’re hoping to make a sound that will get God’s attention,” Ms Hayward said.

“There are several instances in the Bible where a sound preceded a mighty move of God.

“The walls of Jericho came down after a shout from the children of Israel. Paul and Silas were released from jail when they sang praises to God at midnight. The sound of their praise caused an earthquake loosening their chains and setting them free.

“We want to make a similar sound, a sound that will reach Heaven and get God’s attention.”

The First Church of God ministry leaders are promising a worship experience rather than just a show of music and dance.

“We hope the audience will be visually inspired and have their hearts stirred by the messages and the sound they hear through the various renditions,” the pair said.

The event has been in the works for several months.

Ms Hayward was mulling over the possibility of a fundraising concert; a sermon by Reverend Deborah Evans of First Church of God Sound View seemed to support the idea.

“In essence, Rev Dr Evans was telling us that God is going to cause us to realise the visions and dreams that God has given to us in 2015,” Ms Hayward said. “From that message, The Sound was born.

“This concert will be a realisation of the vision and dream that God gave to me last October.”

Ms Hayward planned to feature the dance ministry at her church but then heard Mr Seale was looking to do something similar with the men — they decided to team up.

Together, they enlisted the support of several performers: mime duo Together in Christ, Transformation Dancers and Flaggers, the Glam Divas, St Paul AME’s Praise Team, Syreeta Powell, Bermuda Idol runner-up Emanuel Humphrey, rappers RoyL and JSilva, Divinity and gospel duo Last Call.

“We’ve had the opportunity to build relationships with ministers of the gospel across the island, which has been tremendous,” Mr Seale said. “The excitement is building and we are looking forward to getting together to give praise and honour our God.”

Musician Mr Seale plays the bass and also the drums.

“I’ve always toyed with the idea of honouring God with my music, but it only became a reality when I started to attend First Church of God, Sound View in 2012,” he said. “Now I see music as a vehicle that channels my spirit towards the Most High.

“Apart from the Bible, it is gospel music which gives me inspiration and helps me to stay grounded in God’s love and His promise for the future.”

Ms Hayward believes the musical line-up will “make a lasting impression” on the audience.

“Don’t say you wish you were there, you don’t want to miss it,” she said.
