A different type of Sunday service

Driving force: radio host Nikita Robinson is behind Every Praise Tailgate Experience, a free event taking place tomorrow on the field of The Evangelical Church in Paget (Photograph supplied)

It’s short notice, but Nikita Robinson is hoping believers turn out in droves to The Evangelical Church for the tailgate party she has planned on its field tomorrow. With Christ at the centre of it, the Every Praise Tailgate Experience will be a bit different than the tailgate parties regularly held before sporting events and concerts in the US. Mrs Robinson, the popular 102.7FM host of The Ladies Room, came up with the idea as Hurricane Teddy passed by Bermuda this week.“On Monday during the storm, God sent me to work at the radio station and ushered in four hours of prayer,” she said. “We started with Bermuda’s intercessors from near and far who called in to pray for the island and to set the atmosphere.“We then called on bishops, pastors, priests and apostles who prayed about the seven mountains of cultural influence: religion, government, business, family, media, arts and entertainment and education. “This was followed by various brothers and sisters in Christ who called in to pray for other areas such as our youth, those experiencing suicidal thoughts, depression and so on.”At the end of her radio show she felt impressed by God to do something similar but on a bigger scale. She immediately put her thinking cap on and, within a day or so, the tailgate worship experience idea was birthed. “This is a God-inspired idea from The Ladies Room listeners, Prayattention and One Body In Christ Movement: For God’s purpose. We have all been praying and fasting based on the scripture 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says: ‘If my people who are called by name shall humble themselves, seek my face, turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and heal their land.’“We wanted to put this text into action and uplift, motivate and encourage our nation of Bermuda with the word of God through prayer, repentance, thanksgiving and praise.”The service will include an hour of prayer and an hour of worship. “If you come you can expect a blessing from the Lord. There will be various clergy praying from 4pm to 5pm and the One Body In Christ Movement: For God’s Purpose ministry will minister in praise and worship from 5pm to 6pm accompanied by local gospel DJs Cover Boy and Fiyah Kid.”This is the fourth event the One Body In Christ Movement has been part of since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Faith-based organisations and ministries have been encouraged to think of innovative and interactive ways to continue their worship experiences as Bermuda has navigated through these times with limited social gatherings. “We have been challenged in a good way to join forces and truly become one body in Christ during this pandemic,” Mrs Robinson said.• The Every Praise Tailgate Experience will take place on the field of The Evangelical Church in Paget tomorrow, beginning at 4pm. Entry is limited to the first 70 cars. Social-distancing protocols will be in full effect. Admission is free. Drivers are asked to enter via White Sands Road
