Renegades aim to retain titles

What they’re playing for: the Mad Hatters trophies (Photograph supplied)

Local men’s and women’s rugby teams will be vying for honours at the third annual Mad Hatters Tournament, to be held at the North Field today.

The event marks the start of the new season and 2016 champions Renegades will be looking to hold on to both titles.

Police RFC will be looking to give men’s league champions Renegades some tough competition while Mariners and Teachers will be looking to end the silverware drought for their respective clubs and clinch the first silverware of the season.

Sean Field-Lament, the Bermuda Rugby Football Union president, said: “The Mad Hatters tournament really is a family-friendly event and encompasses everything that rugby stands for.

“Whether you’re looking for something to do or want to find out more about the sport we encourage everyone to come down for the afternoon and watch the men and women’s games for free. Thanks to Mad Hatters for their ongoing support.”

In the women’s competition, Renegades will be looking to hold on to that trophy, too, while the Mariners will be looking to provide some competition after narrowly missing out last year.

Games begin at noon. For more information please visit www.facebook.com/BermudaRugby.
