Quincey Kuzyk, Mairi Redmond and junior runner Jaeda Grant are among a handful athletes who have now chalked up two wins from two races in the BNAA Cross Country series.

On one of the most challenging courses in the five-race series runners faced uneven trials and a steep hill climb at Fort Scaur, in Sandys.

All age divisions above under-14 had to run three miles, except the open men runners who were tested over four miles.

Sean Trott bagged a comfortable win in the open men’s category to go with his second place in the opening event of the series at Chaplin Bay two weeks ago. He completed the tough course in 26 mins 9 secs, staying ahead of Oliver Kempe who finished in 34:10.

Trott kept in close contact with teenager Kuzyk during the early stages of the race, but the leader of the under-17 men’s division was running the shorter three-mile distance and opened up a gap on all his pursuers to claim his second win in the category in 19:12.

The open women’s race was won by Gayle Lindsay in 23:08. She most recently competed in last month’s New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile races in New York City, where she clocked 5:11.

Second among the open women was Rachael Tusiime in 32.12.

A close contest in the women’s senior masters division continued as Mairi Redmond and Zina Jones reprised their first and second positions from the opening event. Redmond looked strong as she stopped the clock at 26:51, with Jones next in 28:07.

In the over-60 division for women, Edwina Arorash made it two wins from two, in a time of 34:23. Next to finish was Midge Oliver in 39:10.

Jay Kempe and Eddie Fisher were again first and second in the over-60 men’s division. Kempe clocked 26:14, with Fisher next in 30:28.

In the junior races, Jaeda Grant collected her second win of the series in the under-10 girls’ category, running the one mile distance in 7:00, with Isis Tucker second in 8:49.

Zaeden Stewart strengthened his position in the series by winning the under-12 boys’ category, also over a one mile distance, in 6:53. Stewart finished second in the division two weeks ago.

And Tommy Marshall was first in the under-14 boys’ division, over two miles, in 12:39. He also scored a second place position in the opening race of the series at Chaplin Bay.

The next race in the series is on October 21 and will be held at the Botanical Gardens, which is a change of venue from the original published schedule.
