Grant and Kempe remain unbeaten

Jaeda Grant and Jay Kempe kept their unbeaten records in this year’s BNAA Cross Country series, both winning their respective divisions on Saturday with only two events remaining in the five-race series.

Competing at the Botanical Gardens, Grant dominated the girls’ under-10 race, completing the two miles in 13min 49sec, almost three minutes clear of runner-up Amaris Munya.

The margin of victory was even greater for Kempe in the men’s over-60 category, covering the three miles in 22.43, with Mike Whalley next in 30:19.

In the open men’s race, which was contested over four miles, Chayce Smith was in dominant form to win in 21:11. Smith also won the first race in the series, at Chaplin Bay a month ago.

He was followed on Saturday by Sean Trott, in 22:25.

The open women’s division, over three miles, saw Gayle Lindsay first across the line in 19:13, followed by Kimberly McIvor in 22:27. Lindsay now has two division wins in the series.

The men’s master division was won by Omari Hart in 17:36, while the women’s senior master division saw Deborah Norman lead the way in 22:37, ahead of series leader Mairi Redmond in 23:48.

Midge Oliver won the women’s over-60 division in 34:44.

In the junior races, Tommy Marshall impressed with a comprehensive victory in the boys’ under-14 category.

He covered the two-mile course in 11:36, ahead of Jake Brislane in 11:59.

Jade Johnston won the girls’ under-14 division in 13:36, ahead of Zoe Hasselkuss in 13:57.

The under-10 boys’ division was won by Masaki Kitade in 13:45. He also won the first race of the series four weeks ago.

Khari Sharrieff was first among the under-12 boys in 13:08, while Ramiah Brangman was top under-12 girl in 14:13.

Ryan Outerbridge was first in the men’s under-17, completing the three miles in 17:34, while Tilly Norman was first under-17 woman in 19:33.

And Johndell Cumberbatch led the way for the under-20 men, in 17:27.
