One of the most popular events on Bermuda’s road-running calendar will mark its tenth anniversary on Sunday.

The Bacardi 8K run and walk attracts hundreds of participants and this year will be no exception.

Almost 200 entrants had registered by midday yesterday, with Tim Price and Martina Olcheski-Bell among the top names listed.

The race was named in 2007 after Bacardi’s new rum Bacardi 8, and was originally organised by Stephen Egan from Mid Atlantic Athletic Club and Norma Thompson, from Bacardi.

Lamont Marshall and Victoria Fiddick achieved a hat-trick of victories during the first three years in the men’s and women’s categories.

Reigning champion Chris Estwanik is the event’s most prolific winner, with five wins to date.

He holds the course record of 24min 46sec, set in 2011. While his wife Ashley Estwanik has won the women’s title three times, setting a course record of 30:13 in 2013.

Last year’s women’s champion was Gayle Lindsay.

The 8K starts and finishes at the Bacardi building on Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke. Entries can be made online at www.racedayworld.com
