Smith targets top-ten finish

Ahzai Smith remained on course for a top-ten finish during yesterday’s penultimate day of the RenaissanceRe Junior Gold Cup in the Great Sound.

After two discards the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club sailor still leads the local fleet and is eighth overall.

Smith enjoyed his finest moment of the regatta in yesterday’s lighter conditions after leading the racing fleet across the finish line in the ninth race.

The 12-year-old has so far managed three podium displays.Second on the local leaderboard and thirteenth overall is Christian Ebbin followed by RBYC stablemate Jordan Etemadi, who is fifteenth.

Leyli Walker, the granddaughter of late RBYC Commodore Jordy Walker, is the top local girl sailor and 25th overall followed by Genevieve Lau and Laura Hupman in 32nd and 34th. Mia Nicolosi, of St Thomas, still holds a commanding lead over the entire fleet heading into today’s finale.
