Peter Bromby made a triumphant return to the International Star Class at the combined Tomahawk Regatta and 12th District Championship in New Jersey earlier this month.

The Bermudian skipper and crew Grant Jeffrey topped the four-boat Tomahawk Regatta fleet also boasting 2013 World Star Class champion John MacCausland.

Bromby and Jeffrey were a model of consistency as they won all but one race in the five-race series competing in the former Olympic class dinghy to finish seven-points clear of nearest rival MacCausland and his crew Guy Avellon.

Ben Stenberg and crew Lana Licciardi, who won the opening race that denied Bromby and Jeffrey the sweep, rounded off the Tomahawk Regatta podium and were sixth in an overall fleet of 21 entries.

John Finch and crew Mark Passmore won the District Championship with the teams of Andy Ivey and Bob Krahulik, and Rick Dhein and Clark Dhein, rounding off the podium. The event was held on June 2 and 3 and was hosted by the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club in conjunction with the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association.

Bromby and Jeffrey stormed to the top of the standings after recording a 2-1-1 record on the opening day of the regatta contested in light five to eight-knot breeze on Lake Hopatcong.

They then clinched the title convincingly after sweeping the only two races held on the second and final day in stronger 15to 18 knots that thinned the fleet out considerably.

The 53-year-old Bromby is one of Bermuda’s most accomplished sailors.

He won the bronze medal along with crew Michael Marcel at the 1997 Star World Championships in the United States and just missed the podium at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, after finishing fourth with crew Lee White.

Bromby is also a multiple International One Design world champion and the only skipper to win three consecutive IOD titles.
