Ebbin on course for podium

Bermuda sailor Christian Ebbin

Christian Ebbin remained firmly on course for a podium display in the Optimist class on day three of the Semana de Mar del Plata in Argentina yesterday.

After nine races and a throw out, the promising sailor is fifth among the 232-strong international fleet, just a point shy of third place.

Ebbin has been consistent so far with a trio of top-three finishes under his belt, which includes a win in the sixth race.

He is among a foursome of Royal Bermuda Yacht Club youth sailors who are also making good strides at the competition. In 29th spot is Magnus Ringsted with a best showing of fifth followed by Rachael Betschart, who is 47th with a best finish of ninth.

Nicole Stovell, the final member of the RBYC team being accompanied at the regatta by coach Pablo Weber, is 86th with a best showing to date of fifth.

This year marks the fourth time that Bermuda has been represented at the Semana de Mar del Plata, which RBYC sailor Chase Cooper won in 2013.

The regatta, being contested by 11 different countries, finishes on Saturday.
