Richard Todd has resigned as head coach of Premier Division side North Village Community Club.

The former national academy director has decided to call it quits because of family and work commitments after serving in the role for just one season.

Todd officially resigned on June 14.

It remained unclear yesterday whether North Village, who finished fourth in the top flight last term, had found Todd’s successor.

Village are now one of two Premier clubs who have undergone a coaching change during the off season after Scott Morton replaced Mark Wade as head coach of Dudley Eve Trophy holders, PHC Zebras.

Meanwhile, The Royal Gazette can confirm that next season will be Jomar Wilkinson’s last in charge of Dandy Town Hornets, the Premier Division champions.

The former Town midfielder had contemplated severing ties with the Pembroke West club and taking his services elsewhere after falling out with management at Western Stars Sports Club, under whose auspices Town fall.

Relations between both parties have been strained in recent years and reached a tipping point last season with Wilkinson said to be up in arms over a host of issues, including poor equipment and lighting at the club’s St John’s Field venue.

He also believed that there was a lack of appreciation from management over the team’s success in the top flight, while the two sides have also been locked in a pay dispute. Wilkinson is reportedly one of the lowest paid coaches in the top flight, despite the continued success he brought to the club.

However, both parties have managed to put their differences aside for now, with Wilkinson agreeing to stay on for one final season.

The son of Cecil Lewis, the former Western Stars Sports Club president, Wilkinson is one of Town’s most decorated coaches having won numerous league and cup honours during a highly successful coaching stint.

Last season Wilkinson guided the club to its eighth Premier championship and fourth in seven seasons. Town also won the Charity Cup and reached the final of the FA Cup, where they lost 2-0 to Robin Hood at the National Stadium.

Before the row with management had been resolved Wilkinson had been linked with a potential move to at least two of Town’s Premier Division rivals.

It is understood that he had been involved in initial discussions with Boulevard Community Club, while a meeting with Somerset Trojans, the Friendship Trophy holders, had been planned but never materialised.
