Todd ran out of time to coach Village

Stepping down: Todd, left, when he was welcomed to Village by Stephen Coddington, the club president

Richard Todd stepped down as coach of Premier Division side North Village because he was no longer able to make the required commitments.

Todd resigned last month because of family and work commitments after taking the reins at Bernard Park for just one season.

“This has not been an easy decision to make, however due to extended family and work commitments moving forward, I do not feel that I can fully dedicate myself to fulfilling the role of coach as will be required by the club,” said Todd, a former St George’s coach.

A statement released by the club yesterday thanked Todd for bringing “a wealth of energy, passion and structure” to the club.

“The team struggled during the 2014/25 season and required an impact coach like Richard,” it read.

“He brought the team from seventh place to a fourth-place finish in the Premier Division,

“He delivered on his promises of improvement in the team’s displays as well as league position, however due to personal and professional reasons, the club understandably accepted coach Todd’s decision.”

Irving Romaine, the former Bermuda cricket captain and Todd’s assistant, is rumoured to be in contention to the role largely because of his popularity with the players.

It is thought Ralph Bean, Todd’s predecessor, and Sammy DeGraff, another former Village player, could serve as Romaine’s assistant coaches.

“The club and players remain strong and dedicated and look forward to the upcoming season,” the statement continued. “We are all up for the challenge and prepared to put in the hard work necessary to fulfil the club’s desire to be a trophy contender in all competitions on the field and a leader in off-field administration.”
