Coaches take knowledge to the next level

Knowledge is power: the local coaches display their certificates after completing their C licence course

A group of local football coaches have successfully completed their Uefa C licence equivalence course run by the Bermuda Football Association.

Run by Jacques Crevoisier, the former Liverpool assistant coach, together with local coach educators, the course started in May and was completed by the 21 local coaches last month.

The 40-hour course placed emphasis on a wide variety of topics ranging from coaching education to football knowledge and was divided into practical and theoretical sessions.

The successful coaches were: Aaron Lugo, Alfred Hardtman, Anderica Gilbert, Brian Davis, Cavon Spencer, Cecoy Robinson, Che Smith, Jahki Outerbridge, Jevon Roberts, Jonathan Eve, Kelvon “Showande” Butterfield, Marvin Belboda, Kim Simons, Kyle Williams-Tannock, Michael Richardson-Martin, Quincy Hunt, Robert Lee, Shae Butterfield, Shane Dietz, Stephen Trott and Zayna Foggo.

Scott Morton, the president of the Bermuda Football Coaches Association, praised the participants’ flexibility as many sessions had to be rearranged or took place in heavy rain because of the approach of Tropical Storm Karl.

“It certainly proved to be challenging but as coaches we have to learn to adapt,” said Morton, who coaches Premier Division side PHC Zebras.

“I’m pleased to say all coaches rose to the challenge and visibly grew in confidence as the course progressed.

“Many of them commented about their excitement and being able to take their newly polished skills back onto the field for the benefit of their club.”

This coaching initiative, which began in 2012, has now produced 145 Uefa C licence equivalent qualified coaches.

“These coaches make such a huge difference out in the community especially at a youth football level where they introduce discipline and structure in their training and games and this has a very positive impact on and off the field,” Morton added.

The BFCA are set to launch an Introduction to Coaching course aimed at new coaches who may not be ready for the C licence equivalent course.

It will involve ten hours of participation and will include observing practical sessions run by qualified coaches.
