Dandy Town are struggling to find a goalkeeper for tonight’s Dudley Eve Trophy semi-final with Devonshire Cougars at Goose Gosling Field.

Town cannot play Dale Eve as he is still awaiting international clearance while youngster Ajai Daniels, the present first choice, is travelling to Curaçao today with the Bermuda Under-20 team for the final qualifying round of the Caribbean Under-20 Championships

Experienced goalkeeper Cymande Davis, who filled in for Town in last month’s Charity Cup, is carrying an injury.

Town will also be without defender Jahtino Richardson-Martin and midfielder Amar Lewis who are travelling with the Under-20s.

A club official, who asked not to be named, has questioned the timing of the semi-final double-header.

“The BFA could have and should have done better in regards to the timing,” he said.

“We weren’t even aware of the tournament; we found out from the players at the end of training on Sunday that they possibly would not be available as they would be travelling with the Under-20 team if selected.

“To play such an important game without such a key player, namely our one and only goalkeeper, is a travesty.”

“We submitted for clearance for Dale maybe a month ago and we haven’t heard any more in terms of confirmation of his eligibility. It’s been nearly three weeks since we’ve had a game, so they could have played it on Monday.

“Obviously the players want to play for their country — and they should play for country before club — but now they expect us to play a semi-final without our only goalkeeper.

“We had another goalkeeper, Cymande Davis, but he’s injured right now.”

Town are hoping to have Drewonde Bascome, who went off with a shoulder injury against Robin Hood, available tonight.

“Drewonde did complain about some soreness in his shoulder on Sunday in training, but he should be fit for the match,” said the official.

Tonight’s opening match pits PHC Zebras, the holders, against North Village in a clash of two of the most in-form teams.

Devarr Boyles, the Village coach, and Scott Morton, the PHC coach, are both former Town players and coaches.

It has been 17 days since any of the teams last played, Town crashing to a second straight league loss at home to Cougars, which leaves them in last place in the standings.

Town finished first in group A after wins over Boulevard and PHC, while Village won group B with victories over Cougars and Robin Hood.

PHC beat Robin Hood 2-0 in last year’s final.
