The nominees for this season’s top-flight Most Valuable Player award — Ian Coke, Na’eem Griffith and Tahj Bell — will feature in the East v West All-star match during the Bermuda International Football Festival at the National Sports Centre on Saturday.

Boulevard striker Coke, who won the award, will lead the East while Griffith, the PHC defender, and goalkeeper Bell, of North Village, will play for the West who will be coached by Kyle Lightbourne, Scott Morton and Quincy Paynter. The East coaches are Devarr Boyles and Randy Spence.

Devonshire Cougars, who won the Dudley Eve Trophy and Friendship Trophy, have four players in the East select — Zeiko White, Machai Battersbee, Charmari Burns and Cashun Brangman — while Boulevard, North Village and Dandy Town each have two. X-Roads, the First Division champions, have captain Jamin Furbert and midfielder Tymon Daniels included.

League champions Robin Hood are represented by three players with goalkeeper Jason Simons included along with Nathan Peskett and Lejuan Simmons. As well as Griffith, PHC also have Daren Usher, captain Cecoy Robinson and young midfielder Mahzye Burchall representing the West.

Young Men’s Social Club, promoted back to the top flight after 37 years, have three players named in the West team, strikers Robert Rawlings and Clay Darrell and midfielder Quadir Maynard.

Young Players of the Year, Tomiko Goater, of Dandy Town, and Jahkari Furbert, of BAA, will also be featured, with Goater playing for the East and Furbert for the West.

A concert featuring local and overseas artists is also planned for the evening, with the event aimed at reaching at-risk youths in the wake of ongoing violence.

The committee putting on the festival, chaired by Rick Richardson, said it will not be a one-off event and already there are plans to expand it in 2018 to include the International stars Sevens, a seven-a-side round-robin tournament involving former professional players.

The committee includes former professional players Clyde Best, Shaun Goater and David Bascome, as well as Charles Marshall, a former Bermuda Football Association president, and Rick Richardson as chairman. Also on the committee are former player and coach Leroy “Nibs” Lewis, Troy Harvey, a youth football advocate, and Mervyn Grant, who is the project director.

There will be an under-14 match made up of National Academy footballers starting at 4.30pm and followed by the all-star match at 7pm. During half time there will be a performance by United States freestyle football champion Frankie Gonzalez of New York, who performed at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Martin Wyer will referee the all-star match with Lionel Cann and Lloyd Christopher his assistants. Tashun Simons will be the fourth official while Joe Eve is the match commissioner.
