Bermuda win gross division at St Croix

Winning feeling: Bermuda's gross winning team and a few supporters at the 37th annual women's Kitty Michael International Invitational Tournament

A Bermuda team led by captain Kathy Lloyd-Hines won the gross division and finished second in the net at the 39th Kitty Michael International Invitational Tournament in St Croix, US Virgin Islands, last weekend.

Held from April 25 to 29 at the Carambola and Buccaneer Golf Clubs, the tournament saw the Bermuda team — which also included vice-captain Liz Carpio, Valerie Nearon, Katrin Burnie, Katyna Rabain, Tracy Burgess, Ann Symonds and Cindy Ratzlaff — finish as overall gross winners on 760, 13 strokes ahead of Puerto Rico.

Bermuda also placed second behind net winners St Croix who finished with a combined score of 640 to Bermuda’s 656. Usually made up of ten women, this year’s team consisted of eight players, all of whom had to qualify to attend the event.

Burgess was the top Bermuda player, finishing fifth overall in the gross with a three-round gross score of 254, while Burnie was sixth on 255. Symonds and Rabain finished in a three-way tie for ninth on 261.

Teams taking part included Puerto Rico and St Croix as well as Florida, New Jersey, Montreal and Toronto.

Bermuda are regular participants in the tournament. Carpio will take over as Bermuda captain for the 2018 and 2019 tournaments.
