BAC has high hopes for Junior Tournament

The sixth annual Bermuda Anglers Club Junior Fishing Tournament takes place on Sunday.

The tournament is for boys and girls aged 16 and under, and if you do not have a boat, there is a category for children fishing from the shore. It is free to enter and will be held from 8.30am come rain or shine.

Club president and tournament director Kip Froud said that the BAC has been delighted with the response to the tournament in previous years and has high hopes for the 2017 event, especially now One Communications and Conyers Dill and Pearman have come on board as principal sponsors.

“This is an event where kids all across Bermuda can participate and enjoy time with their friends and family members,” Froud said. “It has been especially rewarding to see kids participating and having fun. We want 2017 to be an even bigger success.”

Part of the goal of the tournament is to help children understand and respect Bermuda’s Fisheries Regulations. The minimum legal weights and lengths for various species of fish are on each entry form.

Each child that comes to the weigh-in station will receive a free T-shirt.

The weigh-in will be held west of the Flagpole on Front Street between 3pm and 5pm on Sunday.

Prize-giving will be held at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Saturday, August 26 at 10am, with 25 prizes up for grabs.

“The Junior Fishing Tournament owes its success to the generosity of our local sponsors,” a BAC statement said. “In addition to One Communications and Conyers Dill & Pearman, Butterfield & Vallis, John Barritt & Son Ltd and the Corporation of Hamilton are all behind the 2017 event.”
