Blue Waters tournament another success

The Blue Waters Angler’s Club recently hosted their Annual Junior Angler Tournament, which they have held regularly for more than 50 years.

“This junior tournament is the longest-serving junior angler tournament in Bermuda,” Ray Bean, of the club, said. “This event hosts, on average, forty young people both boys and girls ranging from 5 years old up to 16 years old. We hire vessels that took the children out fishing for the day which is more likely than not the first experience these young adults have with fishing out on a boat as to do so can prove an expensive venture that their families cannot afford.”

After the tournament, the club hosted a Barbecue, Weigh-In and Prize Presentation. At the end, all participants were given a school backpack with water bottle and school supplies.

We cannot take all credit for this event because we do receive some assistance through vendors and suppliers through discounts and donations who have supported us over the years,” Bean added. “We would like to thank Sports R Us, CMart, John Barritt & Son Ltd and Butterfield & Vallis.

“The vast majority of participants go on one boat that is designed and equipped to carry a great deal of anglers. This boat doesn’t venture far out off shore. We also hire smaller boats that can only carry about four anglers to allow the older boys and girls the opportunity to go out further and do Lite Line Game Fishing.”
