Warwick Academy dominated the competition as they swept all four divisions at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Girls’ badminton tournament.

Asia Leigh Hollis got things rolling for Warwick, who hosted the event, when she defeated Isabella White, from Somersfield Academy, in straight sets to win the under-13 singles title.

Hollis defeated Saltus Grammar School’s Tamara Leach 11-4 in the semi-finals, while White overcame Warwick’s Adriana Argent 11-7 in the other semi-final.

Megan Johnston won the over-13 title after a three-set battle with Tatum Brewer from Somersfield Academy.

Brewer won first set 11-8 before Johnston levelled the match by winning the second set 11-5.

Fatigue set in for Brewer as she fell 11-0 in the deciding set. All four Warwick players finished pool play undefeated but could not all reach the semi-finals.

Johnston defeated Megan Hands from Mount Saint Agnes 11-2 in the quarter-final. Connie Betts then beat MSA second seed Ashlee Furtado 11-8, with Ellie Richmond defeating MSA’s Ashley Horseman 11-1.

Warwick second seed Tayla Horan was the school’s only player to suffer a quarter-final defeat when she fell 11-6 to Brewer. Johnston defeated Betts 11-4 in the semi-final, while Brewer defeated Richmond 11-9 in the other semi-final.

Hollis teamed up with Argent to win the under-13 doubles tournament with an 11-9 win over Saltus pair Honor Minors and Cardwell. Hollis and Argent reached the final after defeating Somersfield Academy’s Sienna Bonanno and Josephine Duerden 12-10.

The Saltus pair reached the final with a 11-8 win over the other Somersfield team of White and Maya Rajeh

Johnston teamed up with Horan to win the over-13 doubles title in a two-set final win over Brewer and Lindsay Smith.

The champions defeated MSA’s Hand and Furtado 11-4 in the semi-finals, while Somersfield defeated Warwick’s second team of Richmond and Betts 11-7 to reach the final
