Whaley suffers more injury woe

Ankle injury: Arkansas running back Devwah Whaley

Devwah Whaley is doubtful for the Arkansas Razorbacks trip to Tulsa on Saturday after being struck down by injury for the second time this season.

The Bermudian running back left the field early in the third quarter with an ankle injury during the Razorbacks heartbreaking home loss to Ole Miss at War Memorial Stadium at the weekend.

Whaley tweeted last night: “Surgey went well.”

Whaley rushed for 67 yards on 12 carries with a longest rush of 16 yards and also had nine receiving yards on two catches before his day came to a premature end. He was among a trio of Razorbacks who were injured in the 37-33 loss to Ole Miss, as starting quarterback Ty Storey and fellow running back Rakeem Boyd also did not finish the game.

“I loved the way we ran the football,” Chad Morris, the Arkansas head coach, said. “That’s what we’re trying to do. We had Devwah and Rakeem going. The pace they were going at was very impressive.”

It was Whaley’s first appearance since he suffered a head injury during Arkansas’ game against Auburn on September 22, which ruled him out of their next two outings against Texas A & M and Alabama as he completed the mandatory concussion protocol.
