The Bermuda Netball Association Senior League hosted two more high-scoring encounters at Bernard Park yesterday.

In what proved to be the game of the night, Phoenix Heat suffered their second defeat at the hands of an up-and-coming Storm Thunder, who prevailed in a 35-32 victory.

It was clearly a topsy-turvy battle with both teams giving it all they had. The Storm shooting pair of Nabiilah Nasir and Selah Tuzo had Heats defence on their toes, with their speed proving to be an asset, along with their impressive handling, gathering balls that seemed almost impossible to catch. They also sank their shots having to shoot up and over their taller opponents.

At the other end, Kehzari Knights, Heat’s shooter would not be denied the satisfaction of shooting goal for goal using her height, finishing with a 20-goal haul, while Arkeita Fubler dominated in the attack with precise passes.

Not to be outdone, the defensive unit of Debre Evans and mother-daughter pair Nina Webb and Asante Chapman cleaned up and intercepted numerous passes using their agility and jumping skills to intercept balls and retain possession.

The defensive combination of Kiante Lightbourne and Chelsea Somner’s never-say-never attitude helped keep the score close but in the end Storm Thunder, led by Nasir’s 22 goals, proved just to strong as they overcame their opponents to secure a hard-fought win.

In the other game, youngster Amaiah Butterfield once again showcased her burgeoning potential by stepping up to the senior side and scoring 29 of Storm Lightning’s 41 goals, in their 41-32 success over Robin Hood. Jaylynn Hines and Shivaughn Lee added the remaining goals for Storm Lightning, while on target for Hood were Charlie Bridgman and Jess Arneil.
