Bermuda pair David Maycock and Patrice Tucker both sit just outside the top 24 qualifying spots after two days of competition in the 55th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Palembang, Indonesia. After 12 games Maycock sits 31st among 73 men’s bowlers with an overall score of 2,355, while Tucker is 38th among 60 competition in the women’s field with a score of 2,071. Maycock has a 196.25 average while Tucker has a 172.58 average at the halfway stage of qualifying, with 198.92 being the cut-off average for the men and 188 for the women.John Javanwicz, of the United States, occupies the final qualifying spot for the men and Edith Quintanilla, of El Salvador, the 24th spot for the women. Francois Louv, of South Africa, the overnight leader, increased his lead yesterday when he had a six-game set of 1,461, which included games of 288 and 290 for a total of 2,806, a 233.8 average.“I got a bit hyped up after a 288 in the first game and came down to earth with a bang and a 205,” Louv said. “But I picked it up again, that 290 was pretty good. By the last game I had to make a major adjustment, moving right over to the left pushing the ball out. It worked though.”Niko Oksanen, of Finland, moved into contention with a 1,336 set to give him 2,606 overall and second place. Jasem Al-Saqer, of Kuwait, hit 1,307 for a two-day total of 2,576 and now sits in third place. Oliver Morig of Germany also shot a 1,300+ set and moved into fourth place. Kelly Kulick, of the US, shot 1,317 with a high game of 247 to take the women’s lead on 2,610 from Natasha Roslan of Malaysia, who is now in second on 2,543. Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic, the 2,010 and 2,011 champion, also had a good set and moved herself up to third place on 2,493.Kelly said afterwards: “I’ve been on the pro tour for quite a while now and I’ve been trying so hard to make it to this tournament. I really appreciate the chance to meet people socially from so many countries and I love the fact that we move across the house and share the lanes with all these nations.”High set of the day among the women went to Nadine Geissler, of Germany, with 1,329 and she is now in sixth. She and Kulick were the only female bowlers to hit 1,300+ but a further 11 women shot over 1,200.
