Double joy for Manders and Brooks

Gavin Manders and Ashley Brooks, representing Tucker’s Point Club, took the singles and mixed doubles titles at the Deloitte Open tennis tournament at Pomander Gate Tennis Club last weekend.

A total of 45 players, 34 men and 11 women, battled to reach the finals, with Manders defeating Sam Butler, Bermuda’s No 1 player, 6-1, 6-3 to take the men’s A title.

In the men’s B singles final, Scott Redmond defeated Ben Jones 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 in a closely contested match.

In the ladies A singles final, top seed Brooks defeated Kaylah Ming 6-0, 6-2 while in the ladies B singles finals Jahzuena Bradshaw-Douglas defeated Maja Penruddocke.

Kaylah Ming and Kaila Harvey won the ladies B doubles final over Judith Turnquest and Jahzuena Bradshaw-Douglas.

Manders and Brooks later teamed up to win the mixed doubles final against Jahzuena Bradshaw-Douglas and Romar Douglas.

Jensen Bascome and Neal Towlson won the men’s A doubles final over Manders and David Thomas while the men’s B doubles was taken by Nick Cooper and William Way who defeated Tego Bean and Ben Lines.

The next Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association sanctioned event at Pomander Gate Tennis Club will be the Highland Spring Junior Open Tournament scheduled for the week of July 11.
