Bermuda came from a match down to beat Jamaica 2-1 in their group E clash in the Junior Davis Cup Tournament in El Salvador yesterday.

The victory set up a showdown with the other team in the group, Puerto Rico, for top spot.

Tariq Simons, who has been living in Jamaica the past few years, went down 6-3, 6-4 to John Azar before Trey Mallory tied it up at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Damani Cain in the second singles match.

Mallory then teamed up with Scott Redmond to win the deciding doubles match against Azar and Cain 6-0, 4-6, 10-5 to keep alive Bermuda’s chances of winning the group.

Jamaica lost both their group matches after their 2-1 defeat to Puerto Rico on Monday.

Bermuda are now level on points with Puerto Rico ahead of their match today to decide the group winners.

The six group winners will advance to the last eight, along with the next two best finishers based on sets and games won.

Bermuda’s team of Trey Mallory, Simons, Redmond and coach Ricky Mallory arrived in El Salvador last Friday.
