A total of 11 schoolchildren won free tennis lessons from a top local pro after an “impressive” tryout session at the weekend.

The Hamilton Princess and Beach Club had previously announced that it would offer six children who showed promise on the court free lessons for six months.

But the coaching team was so impressed with the young talent they decided to extend the offer to all 11 children who turned out on Saturday.

James Collieson, tennis pro at the Princess, said: “Saturday’s tennis tryouts were a huge success and a lot of fun for everyone involved.

“We were so impressed by the standard of tennis played by the kids who competed that we have decided to take on all 11 players.”

The children awarded the lessons were Milan Gibbons-Thomas, Ethan Morfitt, Solana Smith, Jordan Spriggs, Sophie Rouja, Alisa Lightbourne, Alexis Sousa, James Schrah, Luke Cedenio, Ethan Hunter and Conor O’Sullivan.

Collieson, who is also junior national team coach, will teach the youngsters, who range in age from 6 to 10.
