Phillips marches into quarters
Daniel Phillips has reached the quarter-finals of Rafa Nadal Tour Under 14 tennis Tournament in Barcelona.
The Bermudian won back-to-back games yesterday, defeating Jordi Moure Carreras 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and Bernardo Munk Mesa by the same score in the second.
Danil Mishchanin awaits Phillips in the quarters today.
The 14-year-old chalked up successive straight-set victories in the qualifying round to reach the main draw.
He beat Guillermo Sanchis 6-1, 6-0 before defeating Ivan Formin 6-3, 6-2.
Phillips bowed out of the Rafa Nadal Tour by Mapfre in Seville, Spain, in the second round in February. Phillips is training to be a professional at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor in Majorca.
