Pacers off to a flyer in Raleigh

The Bermuda Pacers team picked up five medals on the opening day of the Russell E. Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet in Raleigh, North Carolina yesterday.

Sancho Smith and the 15 to 18 boys 4x800 metres relay team won gold medals, with Smith winning the boys 11 to 12 high jump with a personal best leap of 1.60 metres, just missing out on setting a new meet record.

The Pacers team also landed two silver and a bronze medal with Ryan Outerbridge and Jayden Ming finishing second in the 13-14 and 15-16 3,000 metres events.

Iziah Tucker placed third in the 13 to 14 boys 3,000 metres.

Of the 14 Pacers athletes who took part in the 200 semi-final races yesterday, eight members qualified for the finals tomorrow.

Zakiah Lewis placed fourth in the 15 to 16 girls triple jump with a leap of 10.53 metres.

Today’s events will see the Bermuda athletes compete in the 1,500, 100, 400, the 4x100 relay, long jump, shot, discus and long jump.
