Pacers shine at invitational

The Bermuda Pacers team had a total of 12 medals going into yesterday’s final events at the Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet in North Carolina.

Ryan Outerbridge and Sancho Smith captured gold in the 13 to 14 boys and 11 to 12 boys 1500 metres finals.

Outerbridge had a winning time of 4min 37.30sec — a personal best — while Smith ran a time of 5:03.05. Ramiah Brangman won bronze in the 9 to 10 girls 1500 final, clocking a time of 6:00.85.

The team collected a silver in the field events where Leekaysia Burch picked up bronze in the 13 to 14 girls shot putt event, throwing 10.63 metres.

Makayla Tucker, meanwhile, won bronze in the 13 to 14 girls long jump with a personal best leap of 4.91 metres, while Elisha Darrell won a bronze in the 17 to 18 boys long jump after a best leap of 6.37.

In the final event of the day, the 15 to 16 girls relay team of Telilah Wear, Zye Simmons, Syriah Lottimore and Zakiah Lewis won gold in the 4x100.

Yesterday, in the final day of competition, the Pacers were due to have athletes compete in the finals of the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 4x400 relay.
