Dellwood claim honours

Dellwood and TN Tatem placed first and second in the Under-13s and Over-13s at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle Schools Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium.

Dellwood totalled 194.50 points to beat out Tatem (174) over 20 events in the under-13s, while the two schools swapped positions in the over-13s over 22 events when Tatem came out top on 186.50 points, with Dellwood finishing on 174.

Third in the under-13s was Sandys Secondary Middle School on 101.33 points while Bermuda High School finished fourth on 92 points.

Saltus Grammar (147.50) and Sandys Secondary Middle School (112) were third and fourth in the over-13s.

Nirobi Smith-Mills, of Saltus Grammar School, won the over-13 800 and 1500 metres finals in 2min 19.57sec and 4:59.28 respectively.

In last week’s preliminaries, Mills set a new age-group record in the 800 after clocking a time of 2:11.97. Smith-Mills also won the 400 final yesterday in 57.82, having clocked 56.27 in winning the second heat of the preliminary.

Ramon Swan, of Whitney Institute, won the over-13 100 and 200 finals as Tyier Welch, of TN Tatem, placed second in both.

Swan clocked 12.26 in the 100 and 25.45 in the 200 while Welch finished in 12.34 and 25.78.

Benjamin Osset, of Saltus. won the under-13 javelin with a throw of 29.98 metres and was second in the discus with a throw of 23.84.

Naji Bean, of Dellwood, won the discus event with his throw of 24.70. Kenny Leseur, of Warwick Academy, took the under-13 shot put with his heave of 10.66 metres, narrowly edging out the 10.65 posted by Asa-Diop Williams of Sandys.

Sancho Smith of Tatem won both the under-13s 800 and 1,500 in times of 2:22.51 and 4:52.86, while Chayce Tanner, also of Tatem, won the 100, 200 and 400, clocking times of 12.24, 25.61 and 1:00.43.

Saltus pair Koa Goodchild and Selah Tuzo collected gold and silver in the over-13 1,500 and 800. Goodchild won the 1,500 metres in 5:31.08 while Tuzo was second in 5:31.27.

Tuzo took the 800 with a winning time of 2:36.39 as Goodchild was close behind in 2:36.56. Both won their 800 preliminaries.

Za’Kayza Parsons, of TN Tatem, won the over-13s 100 and 200 finals in times of 12.53 and 26.76 seconds.

Jade Johnston, of Saltus, and Tesyah-Mahle Astwood, of Dellwood, were also double winners.

Johnston won the under-13 800 and 1,500 metres in 2:40.76 and 5:28.25, while Astwood took the 200 and 400, clocking times of 28.58 and 1:04.71.
