Carifta Games team swells with qualifiers

Qualifier: high jumper Famous

Nine athletes — including several who have already reached the standard — achieved Carifta Games qualifying marks in yesterday’s final trial at the National Stadium.

Three qualified in the boys under-18 3,000 metres as winner Johndell Cumberbatch went under the 9min 45sec mark with a time of 9:27.74. Cumberbatch had already qualified but was joined by Quincy Kuzyk and Ryan Outerbridge who finished second and third in 9:29.90 and 9:39.06 respectively. They are joined by middle-distance runner Aaron Jacobs who achieved the qualifying standard of 2:03.00 in the 800 with a time of 2:01.29.

Sakari Famous, who won bronze in Grenada last year, achieved the under-18 high jump qualifying mark of 1.75. Also qualifying were Zekiah Lewis with a leap of 5.51, Brianna Mendes in the 3,000 in 11:14.06 and Deneo Brangman in the under-18 200 in 22.44, having previously qualified in the 200 and 400. Elisha Darrell achieved the standard again in the under-20 high jump with a leap of 6.85.

Telilah Wears (200), Ashley Irby (1,500, 3,000), Lyndsey Palmer (3,000) and Kevin Miller (high jump) have also already qualified for the Curaçao event.
