Tre Houston and Kyle Webb will provide the local interest in the men’s 200 metres when they line up against Jamaican pair Oshane Bailey and Ryan Shields in the Bermuda Invitational Permit Meet on July 1.

The Bermuda National Athletics Association are still confirming remaining spots in some events, with one place left in the men’s 200 metres where Yancarlos Martínez, of Dominican Republic, Lalonde Gordon, of Trinidad & Tobago, and Wallace Spearmon, of the United States, are all confirmed.

“In some of the events we are still confirming the final lanes,” said Donna Raynor, the BNAA president. Houston has had a best time of 20.42 seconds this season while Webb, a student at Purdue University, has run a 20.92 time.

Berkeley student Sakari Famous will again be involved against a competitive women’s high jump field where Americans Elizabeth Evans and Tynita Butts, the returning champion, while Saniel Atkinson-Grier, of Jamaica, is also returning. The qualifying mark is 1.80 metres with Evans having a best jump of 1.86, Butts 1.89 and Atkinson-Grier 1.84. Famous, a recent bronze medal-winner at the Carifta Games in Curaçao, is in that range with her best leap of 1.80 metres.

Last year Famous, at 16 the youngest competitor in the meet, placed fourth behind Butts, Emma Kimoto, of Canada, and Atkinson-Grier.

Two spots remain in the men’s 110 metre hurdles where there are five competitors confirmed, including Eddie Lovett, of the US Virgin Islands, who has a best time this year of 13.31 seconds. Also confirmed are Jeffrey Julmis, of Haiti (13.33), Ronald Forbes, of the Cayman Islands (13.36) and Spencer Adams, of the US (13.33).

Eight Bermuda athletes are expected to compete in the meet, with Tyrone Smith, who recently broke his own long jump record, competing against a strong field in front of the grand stand while Dage Minors and Shaquille Dill are two of the eight confirmed for the men’s 800 metres. Dill, like Houston, was seen practicing at the National Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Jessica Lewis will compete in a field of three for the 800 metres para event while Lamont Marshall is lined up to compete in the 3,000 metres steeplechase.
