Island athletes shine at NACAC

Bermuda’s athletes produced some top performances at the NACAC Age Group Championships in Trinidad at the weekend, bringing home several medals.

Anaya West was third overall in the boys 11-12 age group after finishing second in the high jump with a personal best of 1.55 metres and second in the 60 dash in 7.99sec.

Za’Kayza Parsons, in the girls 13-14, was also third overall in her age group, after winning the shot put with a throw of 9.46. Parsons also placed second in the ball throw, with a toss of 52.40.

Parsons came third in the 80 dash in a time of 10.26 and fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.45 where ten girls jumped the same height.

Selah Tuzo’s best finish was a first place in the girls 13-14 age group 1,000, where she clocked 3:16.80 to finish seventeenth overall, while Sancho Smith (13-14) was eleventh overall. He was third in the 1,200 in 3:32.59.

In the same age group, Nirobi Mills finished fifteenth overall after finishing of second in the 1,200 in 3:31.99 where he edged out Smith.

The 4x100 mixed relay team placed fifth in the 13-14 age group.

The team were scheduled to return home last night.

“We would like to really thank everyone who made it possible for this team to travel to this event as these athletes have given us 100 per cent and have done Bermuda proud,” said Donna Raynor, president of the Bermuda National Athletics Association.
