Olympians to speak at Women’s Expo

Former track star: Jearl Miles-Clarke, an Olympic gold medal-winner will be one of the guest speakers at the event

The Bermuda Olympic Association will present the 2019 Women in Sports Banquet and Expo next month.

The event will be held in the Princess Ballroom of the Hamilton Princess on Friday, March 8, which is International Women’s Day.

Guest speakers will be Olympian Jearl Miles-Clark, who won gold medals for the United States in the 4x400 metres relay at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, and compatriot Hazel Clark, an Olympian and director of sports and business development for the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

The Expo, which is free to attend, will be held on Saturday March 9 from 10am to 3pm in the Princess Ballroom. It will feature a panel discussion with Bermuda’s Olympic diver Katrua Horton-Perinchief, Paralympian Jessica Lewis and former footballer and netball captain Dominique Richardson accompanied by their mothers.

There will also be demonstrations and booth displays from several of Bermuda’s National Sports Governing Bodies, and local health and wellness-focused organisations.

The Women In Sports Banquet and Expo is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, BF&M and AXA.

Judy Simons, the BOA president said: “The BOA is committed to the development of athletes across a number of sports and, through our Women in Sport Committee, works actively to increase the participation of Bermudian women and girls in those sports.

“We’re pleased to present the 2019 Women In Sports Banquet and Expo to highlight the achievements of Bermuda’s female athletes, past and present, and showcase the wide range of activities that young women and girls in our community can get involved and compete in. We’re looking forward to a great event and to hosting a large crowd.”

Tickets costing $100 are available from the BOA office on Pitts Bay Road, Sportseller in the Washington Mall, or directly from the BOA’s Women In Sport Committee members.
