The Bermuda Pacers Track Club will make another trip to an overseas meet when they leave for New York today to compete for the second time in the Armory Youth Championships on Monday. The Pacers won a total of 18 medals, six gold, seven silver and five bronze, in their first appearance at the championships last year, with Kahzi Sealey and Sancho Smith among the top performers. Sealey won gold in the 3,000 and 1,600 metres while Smith won a gold in the high jump and two silver medals in the 400 and 800 metres. Both are included in the 18-member team that will be led by Ryan Outerbridge, a Carifta qualifier, Mikal Dill and Koa Goodchild in the 17-18 age group. Outerbridge will compete in the 3,000 and 1,600 and Dill in the 55 and long jump, while Goodchild will run in the 200 and 400. Nhoaa Powell will run in the 17-18 boys’ 55 and 200. The event, sponsored by New York Road Runners, will be held at the Armory and will pit hundreds of junior athletes against each other from across the region. In the 15-16 girls’ division, Jezhari Talbot, a Carifta hopeful, will compete in the 800 and 1,600. Sealey, another Carifta qualifier, Smith, Chayse Tanner and Jauza James will compete in the 55, 200, 800, 1,600 and 3,000 as well as long jump and high jump. In the 13-14 boys, Jaelyn Grant and Joshua Watson will take part in the 55, 200, 800 and 1,600. This will be Watson’s first time representing the club. In the girls’ 13-14 division, I’aura Golding and J’naz Richards will compete in the 55 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres and long jump.In the 11-12 boys’ division, Daylen Scott, Aaron Lugo and Devin Todd will compete in the 55 metres, 200 metres and long jump, with this being Todd’s first time representing the club abroad. In the 11-12 girls, Arima Turner and Jaeda Grant will compete in the 55, 200, 3,000 metres and 1,600 metres. In total, the Pacers team will compete in 32 individual events. They return to Bermuda on Tuesday and will be accompanied by Pacers team officials and parents.
