The Five Fires are red hot

BHS students perform a number of concerts throughout the year at school and in the community. Shown here with music teacher Dr Tully.

The Five Fires are a group of musicians who decided to combine their musical talents to make covers of songs.

Our group was formed in 2015 during a Year 6 music class when we were asked to do a musical performance in front of our class. We performed Timber by Pitbull ft Kesha. We really enjoyed working on songs together and decided to continue to play and perform together. From that day on, we were known as the Five Fires.

At the end of October, we started meeting at lunchtimes on Wednesday and Friday. To prepare for the Christmas concert we began working on Carol of the Bells originally composed by Mykola Leontovych. Then, in the end of term two, we performed Someone Like You written by Adele. Aria and Ariana were on the violin, Nia was on the flute and Charlotte was on the piano. Later on in the year, we performed All of Me by John Legend during an honours assembly. Our next performance was when we were asked to play All of Me again at Open Airways. Recently we were the opening act at the BHS summer concert playing 7 Years by Lucas Graham.

In the future, we hope to continue playing music together. This summer we are hoping to get merchandise to advertise the Five Fires around Bermuda. Our biggest dream for the future is to stay together as the Five Fires and get a record deal with a famous music producer.

Although it does seem like there are four fires, there are five. Our friend Caroline is also part of the group and she sang during Timber and she helps us with organisation. She plays the saxophone and the piano. She will play a saxophone solo in Uptown Funk. We are eager to continue working together and having fun while making covers for different songs.

Over the past year, we have had so much fun creating our own arrangements and we hope to see you in any upcoming concerts!

We would like to say a big thank you to our music teacher, Mr Pitman, and the wood and strings ensemble teacher, Dr Tully, for their support and encouragement.
