Connecting the dots for Jahsun

Making a difference: Jahsun Simons with paraprofessional Alicia Zuill

Alicia Zuill moved to East End Primary this school year as a paraprofessional.

Alicia had previously been working at CedarBridge Academy for 19 years.

Alicia is now working with nine-year-old Jahsun Simons who is a visually impaired student.

Jahsun told us “I have been learning Braille since January with Miss Zuill, I understand the alphabet by touching the dots. I do my spelling words in Braille and once I have mastered it I will be able to start doing my classwork in Braille.”

Alicia has just completed the course on Braille with Hadley School for the Blind and hopes to continue to learn and teach Braille to raise awareness for the visually impaired in Bermuda.

East End Primary recently recognised 14 students from P4-P6 for their participation in their first Braille Club. The students were recognised for their hard work, dedication and their commitment which spanned over a four-month period.
