Seas the chance to try your hand at sailing

Floating their boat: two young sailors take part in the America’s Cup Endeavour Programme

To mark the success of the America’s Cup Endeavour Programme, a range of family friendly activities have been planned in the America’s Cup Village tomorrow.

The day has officially been designated America’s Cup Endeavour Day to celebrate the youth sailing programme, which has seen more than 1,550 students participate since its launch almost two years ago.

Hobie Wave taster sailing sessions will be launched on the water for adults and children and will continue weekends throughout the event. Special programming will also take place with educational partner Science From Scientists. Complimentary ice cream samples will be on offer and live local entertainment, including The Simons Brothers Band, Bermy Bouncers Jump Rope Team, H & H Gombey Troupe and Gombey Evolution Troupe, featured throughout the day.

The Endeavour Programme is the Cup’s youth sailing and educational project aimed at leaving a sporting and community legacy in Bermuda. It has introduced more than 1,550 students between the ages of 9 and 12 from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds across Bermuda to the sport of sailing.

Although tomorrow’s events will see the family fun “ramped up”, family friendly activities will be available for the duration of the event.

Students will be able to experience the excitement of the America’s Cup Village through the America’s Cup Endeavour Education Station, presented by Orbis — a primary partner of the Endeavour Programme — and the Orbis Kids Zone. Fans in the America’s Cup Village, as well as students from public, private and home schools across Bermuda, will be able to enjoy hands-on activities in four “Steam through Sailing” learning stations covering sustainability, health and nutrition, technology and innovation and science and engineering.

Bermuda residents can purchase a family pass for two adults and two children to attend America’s Cup Endeavour Day, which will run from 11.30am to 5.30pm, for $48 online at www.americascup.com/tickets
