Rough weather foils Around the Island racers

Around the Island Race hopefuls Ricky Sousa and Eddie Roque were restricted to action at Ferry Reach yesterday after the big race fell foul of the weather. Organisers are hoping for calmer seas next Sunday when the annual event is now planned.

The aftermath of tropical storm Cristobal denied boat-racing enthusiasts a day of fun and excitement yesterday - only for a week though.

Despite sunny skies, the Bermuda Power Boat Association were forced to postpone their popular Around The Island race until next Sunday because of rough sea swells.

The organisation's membership instead settled for a “regular race day” at Ferry Reach.

Association president, Chris Roque, is confident that, given the appropriate sea and weather conditions, the eagerly-awaited programme will take place next week.

He and other club officials had held out high hopes for yesterday and waited until 10 a.m. before postponing the event. They had been optimistic the weekend's adverse weather would have disappeared completely.
