Singer/songwriter 15-year-old Bailey Outerbridge shoots a music video in Bermuda yesterday.

A teenage singer/songwriter has decided to turn to her Bermudian roots for her first shot at stardom.

Bailey Outerbridge, 15, spent most of this week shooting her first music video on the islandfor her song 'Circus', which she hopes will reach MTV.

"My dad grew up in Bermuda, and comes here every summer to visit family," she said. "We decided to shoot the video for Circus here, and we have a few people who want to take it to MTV. If not, it will definitely show up on YouTube."

Miss Outerbridge said that she had been singing all of her life and started to consider music as a career three years ago.

Since then, she has written music on piano and this year recorded two songs at a studio in New Jersey.

"I've written about 30 songs, but I also do a few covers. Mostly Coldplay," she said. "The biggest crowd I've ever performed in front of was around 800 people.

"It always makes me nervous. I'm mostly nervous before I get on stage. Once I get out there, it feels natural."

While she calls Norah Jones her biggest inspiration, she describes her own style as indie-pop.

"I wrote Circus about two years ago. It's an indie-pop song about the struggles of coming of age and putting yourself out there. About wanting something you've been told you can't have."

Already the song has garnered her some attention.

Her father, Andrew Outerbridge, who lives in the US, said after the song was recorded, Alan Silverman, the man who mastered the recording took it to the chair of the Tisch School of Music.

Mr. Outerbridge said: "They called and organised a meeting with her. At 15. I think that's pretty unprecedented.

"She's a very bright girl and a very together kid. She has a real belief in music, she's not in it to be famous."

She did have a little celebrity help on the recording.

While she wrote, sung, and played piano on the song, guitarist Anthony Krizan, who played with the rock band the Spin Doctors, wrote and performed a guitar part. "I've been trying to learn guitar, but I'm not good enough yet to write songs on it," she said. "We'll be going back into the studio in September, and hopefully everything will be finished by Christmas.

"I have two songs recorded right now, and we're hoping to have at least ten or 11."

First, however, she must go back to high school. This September, she is entering her junior year in high school and after she graduates, she is hoping to continue her musical education at university.

"One of the places I've been really looking at is NYU. I'm not sure I want to go to a purely musical school, but they have a great music department.

"My father has been very supportive of everything, and he's always there to help me out," she said.
