New Court of Appeal judge sworn in

The British judge who ruled on the death of Princess Diana has joined the Court of Appeal of Bermuda as a Justice of Appeal. Sir Scott Baker was sworn in yesterday by Governor Sir Richard Gozney at a ceremony at Government House. He replaces Mr Justice Gerald Nazareth, who recently retired.A Government House spokesman said: “The Governor believes that Bermuda is again fortunate to have secured the services of an eminent Judge as the new member of the Appeal Court.”Sir Scott was called to the Middle Temple Bar in 1961. He was made a Recorder of the Crown Court in 1976 and became a Queen’s Counsel in 1978. In 1988 he became a judge of the High Court.He was the presiding Judge of the Wales and Chester Circuit between 1991 and 1995, and was promoted to Lord Justice of Appeal in 2002.Sir Scott gained international attention when he presided over the 2007/2008 inquest into the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi al-Fayed.
