Daniel Johnson was the first pick in the Lindo’s Island Soccer League draft at the Fairmont Southampton Princess on Saturday night.Apex selected goalkeeper Daniel Johnson with their first pick, making the Dandy Town player only the second ‘keeper to be selected with the number one overall pick. Jason Smith was the first ‘keeper chosen when he was selected in 2009.With the second pick, Royal selected Keishen Bean while Jamie Smith was taken third by the Titans. The Union went for Jason Lee with their first round slot while the surprise of the night was Khamisi Lightourne going to Kings.The Knights and Arsenal selected Nigel Burgess and Taurean Manders, and the defending champions Storm picked Angelo Simmons.For Lightbourne, it was pleasing to be chosen so early with the budding 19-year-old set to test his skills in the smaller version of the game.“I’m excited for this chance, it is my first season playing so I am anxious to see how this style of the game works out for me,” said Lightbourne.“This was my first full season of playing in the top division. Last year I was abroad so as far as that goes it has helped me a lot and will help me in this as well.“I don’t have any real expectations at the moment, I’m just going to go in and do my thing.”The 2011 ISL season kicks off on June 18 at 8 pm when Andrew Bascome and his Storm side begin their title defence against Keishon Smith’s Knights in an Ace Insurance Blue Division rivalry.Opening weekend continues on June 19 with the rest of the ISL teams playing a triple header, games starting at 4 pm.The play-offs will begin with the quarter-finals on Tuesday July 12 and the semif-inals on Thursday, July 14.PHC 4Devonshire Cougars 0Ryan Hassell scored a brace as PHC ended Devonshire Cougars’ hopes of a league and cup double, beating them in the Under-16 Knockout final at BAA Field yesterday.Javon Swan and Frankie Grant both got their names on the scoresheet in the convincing win.Dimitri Daniels was voted MVP for Cougars while Idrees Sharieff was PHC’s MVP.
