Bermuda’s youth will soon be given an opportunity to display their talents while raising funds for the Coalition for the Protection of Children.Bermuda’s Youth Got Talent, a new initiative by the Coalition, will give 20 local youth acts, all 17-years-old and younger, the chance to be broadcast on local television and take part in the Bermuda Day Parade, with the public voting for the winning act.Prizes for the winners will include $5,000, an iPad 2 and the opportunity to record music in a professional studio.Event organiser Kelly Hunt said: “We wanted to do something that showcases the group we are trying to show support and advocate for, and show Bermuda just how talented their young people area.“It’s not just singing, but group dancing, single dancing, instrumental performances. If we have any ventriloquists, we would like them to sign up. We’re hoping to get a real great group with a variety of talents.”Along with putting the spotlight on the Island’s youth, she said the event would help to raise funds for the Coalition, with the public making donations to vote for the winners.Between now and February 17, applicants can sign up at the event’s webpage, with filmed auditions being held in February at the Ruth Seaton James Theatre. All acts must last no longer than two minutes and contain no profanity or inappropriate material, and no contestant can get more than one audition.A panel of celebrity judges will select the top 20 acts, which will be revealed during the May 21 telethon on ZBM as the audition tapes are broadcast.Voting will begin as soon as the show starts, but will continue until 11.59pm on May 24, giving the audience ample time to vote for their favourite.During the May 24 parade, the finalists will be highlighted again during the Bermuda Day Parade, giving them another opportunity to earn votes before the midnight deadline.Useful website: www.bygt.bm.
