Bermuda singer delighted after opening for Natalie Cole

Singer Bailey Outerbridge

Bermudian singer and songwriter Bailey Outerbridge took another step in her musical career this weekend by opening for celebrated singer Natalie Cole.On Saturday night in Stamford, Connecticut, the 18-year-old performed in front of more than a thousand people as part of a fundraiser for Dana’s Angels Research Trust (DART).Speaking yesterday, Miss Outerbridge said the show was a huge success, raising a lot of money for the charity, founded after Dana Marella was diagnosed with a rare genetic metabolic disorder called Neiman Pick Type C.“I thought it went really well. It seems like they raised a lot of money for DART,” Miss Outerbridge said. “When I came back offstage there were a lot of people congratulating me, and that was really great to hear.”During the show, Miss Outerbridge debuted a new song titled ‘Smile,” which was dedicated and inspired by Dana’s battle with her disease.“In writing the song, I talked to Dana’s mom a lot and looked at her pictures and I was really struck by her smile,” she said.“Her smile is really one of the only ways she can interact with people, but she has this really rich smile that is really very touching.”The show was the second fundraiser that Miss Outerbridge has taken part in to benefit DART. Last week, she held her own concert at Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, where she studies music. Before the show began, she said she had the opportunity to talk to the event’s headlining artist, nine-time Grammy winning singer Natalie Cole.“We talked about the song I had written for Dana. Unfortunately I didn’t really get a chance to speak to her afterward,” she said.Miss Outerbridge also expressed excitement about recently having the opportunity to record a cover of the classic Beatles’ song ‘Revolution’ as part of the upcoming John Lennon tribute album being produced in Bermuda. She said she hoped to return to the recording studio sometime this summer to produce a new EP of original songs.
