  • Dancehall artist Wayne Wonder will replace Barrington Levy as the headliner at the Chewstick Emancipation Celebration concert tonight.

International reggae star Barrington Levy has backed out of a performance at tonight’s BeachFest Emancipation Celebration.

Chewstick has announced that reggae fusion artist Wayne Wonder will instead take the lead performing spot at Horseshoe Bay.

Wayne Wonder is known for hits ‘No Letting Go’ and ‘Bounce Along’. Organiser Deidra Lee Bean said Mr Levy was no longer able to attend “due to circumstance beyond our control”.

She said Wayne Wonder had “prepared an epic performance” that some believe could be better than what Mr Levy had in store.

“This change to one-third of the amazing festival line-up has changed the momentum, but not the focus of this eclectic community event,” she stated.

Chewstick describe tonight’s concert and tomorrow ‘s beach party as “the best, safest and most diverse line-up we’ve ever had on the sand”.

Ms Bean said: “Wayne Wonder is an exciting replacement who can most definitely settle into the mix which will still include Dead Prez, Joy T Barnum, Trevor Hall, Canjelae, Imari and more.

“Every year we work hard to make sure that we put together the best possible BeachFest Emancipation Celebration for Bermuda’s residents.”

She said the Detour Band would still take the stage tonight, treating audiences to a “dynamic mix of local and international, quality performers”.

“We and our partners are committed to the positive enhancement of the event and our commitment to excellence went into overdrive to provide our fellow Bermuda residents with the calibre of entertainment we all know, expect and deserve [tonight] from 7pm .

“Since BeachFest is focused more on community togetherness, diversity and celebrating the emancipation of Bermuda’s slaves, we trust that supporters will welcome Wayne with the same fervour as Barrington and recognise that this concert and all-day community event needs their positivity, support and vibes to be a success on the world stage.”

Tomorrow’s beach party boats sporting games, local entertainers and prizes.

Concert tickets are $50 and are available from the Chewstick office, Kit & Caboodle, Rock Island Coffee and ptix.bm.
